| Well coming back to school has been wonderful. I am now dating an extraordinary guy, Chris Mandarino, as of yesterday evening. I knew him a little bit last year and then we have hung out a lot this last week. Everything is fantastic and he's awesome. He's one of those people that you just feel instantly comfortable with and just want to be around all the time. He's extremely strong in his faith and acts upon it all the time. I think all of you would really like him. He and I have been able to have really serious and open conversations which I really enjoy. He's definitely been a blessing so far and I'm really excited for the future. Well I gotta run to class, just thought that I would share my exciting news! | | |
| Does anyone read this anymore??? I know I haven't updated much over the summer since I haven't had much access to a computer but I have to wonder if it's worth it for me to keep this up. Kindly let me know if you read this at all.
So this summer was incredible. I had such a blast. The staff was so much fun this year. I really enjoyed getting to know so many new people and to be rejoined with all the old staff members that had returned. My campers were so phenominal (minus a few really homesick ones - my favorite line of the summer from my co-counselor Buck directed to our homesick girl who refused to participate in anything "What, don't you like to have fun?!?") I also had some phenominal camps this year, including discovering my new love of kayaking which I had the joy of instructing campers in for 2 weeks this summer. It's hard to believe that I got paid this summer to spend two weeks kayaking, one week in high adventure rock climbing, caving, and more, a week at the beach, and more weeks around camp having fun playing games. I also feel as though the message of prayer that we discussed had a lot of meaning for the kids and was something they all could apply in their daily lives. I was thrilled that most of my groups seemed to get a lot out of our Bible studies and that I could hopefully have had a part in the positive influence of so many kids.
School is going to be such a different change of pace. No more spending all of my time outdoors playing games and not having to act my age. I'm used to not having a care in the world that was more important then what was for lunch, if one of my kids was hurt during a field game, or if my fire wouldn't light. Now I will be facing academics, money problems, acting my age, being cooped up all the time and much more. However I will get to see some awesome friends which I am really looking forward to and I know that we will have a ton of fun. Hopefully the transition will be smooth and a lot of fun. Wish me luck, I go back to school in 4 days.
God bless! | | |
| Ahhh how things change. I've been having an absolute blast at camp. Kayaking camp two weeks, beach camp one week, and high adventure with rock climbing and caving the other, awesomely fun non-homesick campers for all of them, and great co-counselors.....tell me really, does life get better then this?!?! haha
Although at the same time things have also been a challenge on the non-camp related front. I broke up with my boyfriend early this week That was really tough but I know it is the right decision. I feel really relieved now that I have made it and I'm confident in it and thank God for the courage to do what I know had to be done. My grandpa's cancer has also returned so prayers for him are very much appreciated.
All in all things are most excellent and life is good. I just turned 20 and had a very happy birthday. I also get to sleep in a real bed tonight which is exciting and where i'm about to head really soon.
Feel free to write or send e-mails to me, they make me really happy! Camp Kirchenwald 1 Cut-Off Road Colebrook, PA 17042 or e-mail me at Kirchenwald@lutherancamping.org (put "Kristen Reed" in the subject box)
| I'm falling asleep but I thought I would give a quick update since I have been gone so long. On Friday I went to Washington to go and visit Andy and help him move in. It was so much fun and soooo good to see him again. We went all over D.C. and saw the National Archives, the old post office which has a spectacular view of the city, the American History Smithsonian and a little bit of the Natural History one, the house where Lincoln died and the outside of Ford's Theater where he was shot, historical Alexandra where there is an excellent harbor that is beautiful, walked just all of the mall I believe, saw a bunch of monuments, went to church, and so much more that I'm not remembering right now. I came back Sunday evening and then left early Monday morning to go camping with Claire and Tom in Rickett's Glenn. It was freezing (I wore 4 layers of clothes, 2 of them sweatshirts the entire weekend) and rainy off and on but we still had a blast. The place is known for its waterfalls which were amazing,. We did a lot of hiking, built campfires and cooked delicious food over them, sang a lot of praise songs, relaxed and much more. It was great to spend so much time in God's glorious creation and made me ready to start camp. Speaking of that, I got a call from Mike so I'm going to start working at camp tomorrow morning at 8am and working the rest of this week and all of next week. I know Chris and Renee are already up there so I'll have company. I think I'm going to stay at home though and just drive back and forth each day since it's only about 20 minutes from my house. It'll be fun even though it's a lot of hard work and it will give me something to do during these long days between college and camp. Can't wait until camp actually starts!! Ok well I'm off to go read and fall asleep shortly since I am that exhausted. I can't remember the last time that I went to bed this early. Wow. | | |
| So I haven't updated in forever, sorry. I made it home safe and sound last Thursday. Since then I have caught up on a lot of sleep and gone to the gym just about everyday. I have hung out with Claire several times since coming home which is fabulous since I haven't gotten to see her much since Christmas. This Friday was spent in Philly watching the Phillies game which was a lot of fun and then staying overnight at my aunt's house. Saturday morning we went to the zoo, ate Chinese for lunch, and then drove back home. That night I went with my dad and Claire to Warwick's choir concert which was amazing. It totally blew me away, made me want to join a show choir, and go out and sing and dance to Broadway show tunes. Then today was my brother's birthday so after cleaning the house all morning after church and most of the afternoon we had his party which was fun and had good food. Always a plus. And of course I am very much looking forward to spending this coming weekend in dc with Andy and camp in a couple of weeks!!!
I'm tired so hopefully that all makes sense and doesn't have too many mistakes in it. Hope everyone else is doing well, feel free to leave a message and tell me what's going on in your life. Oh and I'm also taking prayer requests....if you don't want to leave them on here see the side panel and leave me a message on my im-we have wireless at home so i'm always on.
